In short: I wrote about caffeine and how genetics affect the influence of it on athletic performance. I used the example of caffeine to show that genetics and genotypes influence how different nutrients are used. Nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics as a whole have the potential to optimize food intake and physical performance. By offering individualized nutrition plans based on genotypes, food intake could be more efficient and boost performance.
The conclusion of my thesis is that there aren’t enough studies out there yet, but by further investigating, nutrition plans could be optimized for individuals based on their genotypes.
In my personal opinion: boosting physical performance or any other performance is quite a nice thing, but I like food way too much to adjust my eating habits based on my genotype.
I don’t know my genotype, but if it would tell me not to drink coffee because it decreases my performance, well then my genotype can go and cry in the corner. I’d drink coffee anyway.
